Shoes off rule: Even for flip flops/sandals????

Random question...but I'm curious and my friend told me I was wrong so I wanna see if I'm crazy for thinking this...

So before my complaining, I'll just let you all know that I always take off my shoes upon entering my house and walk around in socks...and I do the same at anybody else's house (unless they don't enforce that rule)...

BUT...I think there should be limits to that rule...for example, yesterday I went to a friend's house in flip flops and he made me take them off at the door so I had to walk around his house in my bare feet...which I think is rude on the host's part...you're supposed to make ur guests feel comfortable and walking barefoot in anybody's house but mine is just awkward...

When I invite friends over and they have sandals with no other footwear, I let them in without demanding they take them off...

So am I crazy? Who here would've done the same as my friend and forced me to take my flip flops off and go barefoot?

Shoes off rule: Even for flip flops/sandals????
While I am a full-time barefooter, I don't really like any shoe or footwear rules; it should be clear if you read any other barefoot questions that you aren't the only one who's just as uncomfortable taking your shoes off as I would be wearing them. I agree it is a bit rude to demand something like that of your guests! I also think a house is meant to be lived in... That is what the vacuum cleaner was invented for, and I'd *never* want to live in a house with white carpet!

Only when someone would have very muddy shoes, I'd ask them to do something about it, but whether they take their shoes off or use the outdoor hose is still up to them.
Reply:flip flops, sandles are styill worn outside so they woul have dirt, debree on them, some people don^t want outside dirt on their carpets. Most sandels or even flipflops have some designs on bottom that hold dirt, mud, grass
Reply:If you go there again take carpet slippers.
Reply:I probably would've told you to take them off. I mean, come on, it is your friend's house after all. For me, I like to keep my carpet clean so I wouldn't allow people to walk all over my carpet with dirt under their shoe and stuff.
Reply:I would have made you take them off. The reason I want peoples shoes off is to keep my house clean. If you stepped in dog doo in your flip flops its the same as shoes.
Reply:yeah shoes off is nice, but shoes are a fashon statment and i love my nikes
Reply:Well I think that at anybodys house if you want to take off your shoes you can and if you feel uncomfortable in doing that you can wear them around the house if u want.
Reply:if they make anyone take their shoes off why would you keep your sandals on just cuz you dont have socks? its the same as shoes cept alot of air flow. so anymore just carry a pair of socks in your purse or something.
Reply:I would not make my any of my guest take off thier sandals esspecially a guy. that is rude
Reply:Crazy
Reply:You're a guest at someone's home, and you're questioning whether or not you should be forced to remove your flip flops. You believe this to be rude. Wake up! You're rude if you refuse to do so. In many households, people ask their guests to remove their shoes for various reasons, and they do not have to explain why to their guests.

I have a co-worker whose young daughter suffers from environmental allergies among others and she therefore asks her guests to take off their shoes before entering her home. We comply. We comply not only because of her daughter's condition, but also because it is HER home.

Suggestion: In the future, take a pair of clean socks with you if you're ever again invited to this home. This way, you won't have to worry about being barefoot.
Reply:I require shoes off in my house. Most people that visit are either wearing sneakers or regular shoes so they take them off and then walk around the house in their socks. I have had people visit with flip flops and they have always just kicked them off before coming inside and then just walked around barefoot. Flip Flops touch the same ground as shoes so it makes sense not to wear them in the house either. My kids friends in the summer often wear flip flops and there is usually a pile of them at the door.
Reply:Well my friend, you have to put yourself on somebody else's shoes LOL.

If your friend requires you to remove them then either you leave or remove them or... if he/she is flexible you are allowed inside with your shoewear.

Mostly people ask for that because they want their house, their inner sanctum as clean as possible from all the filth that is found on the streets (even unseen ones).

Your flip flops are not different than shoes, you got no sucks (and definitely a no-no with sandals and flippies) then tough luck for you! But I do understand, while I like flip flops myself I abhor to have my feet in direct contact with the ground unless it is a "virgin carpet" or at the beach. In that sense I understand your point.
Reply:Yes it is rude to make a guest feel unwelcome or uncomfortable...if you see a family takes off their shoes or sandles you should, but, as a guest they should never ask you to.
Reply:me,jk,u should do as u wish
Reply:It comes down to this: That is your friends house, not yours. It doesn't matter if you think it was rude that he didn' want you walking around HIS house with shoes on. The bottoms of flip flops are no different than the bottoms of boots or tennis shoes in that dirt and crap sticks to the bottom of all of them and can be tracked around a house. Why in the world would it matter if the top of the shoe was open like flip flops or not? It doesn't make sense to think it's OK to wear flip flops in a house but no other shoes.
Reply:flats r da best@@
Reply:y bother, if they dont have mud or something on the bottom of them, i dont care at all!!!! ppl leave them on or take them off we dont say anything!!!
Reply:ur crazy
Reply:why would it make you feel uncomfortable? are you insecure about your feet? next time bring socks with you if you plan to wear flip flops. the bottoms of flip flops are just as dirty and disgusting as the bottoms of shoes. no one wants that tracked all over their house. that's just gross.
Reply:No, you aint crazy. I think about stuff like that ALL the time.... unless we're both crazy? HAHAHA. Ok, well, anyways, that IS rude, unless they want their house lickin' clean, then, I guess that's how they are. I think sandals/flip flops are ok for wood but not carpet because carpet stains stay on the carpet but chyea..
