Why do people ask me if I wear sandals because it's religious or something?

Since I'm Muslim, I wear sandals alot, but I live in Florida, so everyone does. It feels really comfortable, but people think I do because it's religious. Where do people get the religious idea?

Do you know that sandals are sometimes referred to as "apostle shoes"? I am not sure why. It probably has something to do with the fact that they go back a long time to the Middle East. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that poor people used to wear them.
