Why wont Birkenstock's let diabetic people wear there sandals?

I'm diabetic and they told "if I was diabetic I was not suppose to wear sandals @ all" I lied and said " not me". I love there sandals. Isn't this like profiliing or something close to that. What is your opinion on this matter?

Why wont Birkenstock's let diabetic people wear there sandals?
Its just to cover themselves, being diabetic, you know you have your feet checked annually, if something was wrong with your fee, you might want to blame the makers of the sandals, they are just covering themselves,

There are numerous other things that say not for use by diabetics, foot spas say it.

Don't worry about it, you know whether your ok or not, if you do have problems with your feet, your doctor will advise you on the type of foot wear to wear.

Enjoy your sandals !
Reply:As you know we diabetics HAVE to take great care of our feet and we can not "break" shoes, boots or anything else in when buying shoes as this is very bad for our feet.
Reply:As a diabetic you really have to take special care of your feet. The soles of their sandals are cork and are prone to breaking, and splintering. If the cork sole were to break and send a sliver of that cork into your foot, you could have a very hard time ever getting your foot back to normal. My father in law was diabetic, wore Birkenstocks and ended up with two black toes because the sole splintered off into his skin. They got infected, he got a nasty infection from his toes to his knee. Just find another sandal to wear, they tell you that for a reason. I would hope your health comes before footwear.
Reply:They say that for liability reasons.

If you are diabetic, and have foot issues like many diabetics have, then the sandals could cut into the feet and cause sores.

It is not profiling, it is protecting themselves. When you say you don't have diabetes, you remove them from that liability.
Reply:To simplify everything here, if a diabetic gets a cut or a sore it take much longer to heal and in some cases it just doesn't in which case amputation is the next order. Also, most diabetics lose feeling in their feet so if you were to cut your unprotected foot in sandal, let's say, you have the beginning of a potential dangerous problem. It's all for your well being that these warnings are issued to you and so you should be careful as well as for going to get pedicures.
Reply:I'm also diabetic, and have been told not to wear sandals. It's because of possible damage to the feet. A diabetic takes longer to heal. I'm still going for treatment 3 months on, after getting a foot ulcer through going barefoot. As long as you check your feet, there shouldn't be a problem

EDIT...What's with the thumbs down? We diabetics know what we're talking about
Reply:Diabetics shouldn't wear sandals that have any straps between the toes. ulcerations and amputations are common and should be avoided
Reply:Was it possible you confused the word diabetic with the words conservative or person with taste?
Reply:As a diabetic you should protect your feet and toes at all

times.. I don't want to scare you but my dad, cut his toe

it got infected and gangrene set it and he had to have part of his foot amputated...

Please protect you feet!!!!!
